Welcome to the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics China at the Chinese Academy of Sciences(KITPC-CAS)

      The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics China at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (KITPC), which was founded on June 18, 2006, carries out fundamental research on theoretical physics and interdisciplinary research. It has important national and international roles. Nationally, it will coordinate basic research on theoretical physics in China and facilitate interaction between theory and experiment, as well as promote research in interdisciplinary areas among physics and other branches of science, such as astrophysics and cosmology, biophysics, nanoscience, mathematics, etc. Internationally, it will host long-term programs, mini-programs and outreach programs, which will promote the interaction of Chinese scientists with their counterparts in other countries. The goals of KITPC should serve three purposes as an international platform of the ITP-CAS:

      To become a center of excellence in research;
      To act as a platform for productive scientific exchange and cooperation at the most advanced international level;
      To build a basis for fostering and young talents;

The proposed programs and activities are

  • Full scale programs:

    World class extended research programs will be conducted by 20-30 invited scientists, who will be in residence at the KITPC for periods of 3-6 months, where they will engage in research at the frontiers of modern theoretical science. The programs will strongly encourage long stays of visiting scientists and participation by young scientists and postdoctoral fellows. The KITPC will also invite experimentalists to participate in the programs. At any time during the program, it is expected that the core participants are around 25 with about 6-10 from overseas and 15-20 from domestic (about half from outside Beijing), plus 20-25 graduate students, so the total participants may be around 40-50.

  • Mini-programs:

          3-6 weeks will also be organized as these can be organized more rapidly and can respond
          rapidly to recent scientific developments.

  • Outreach Programs:

    The KITPC will also coordinate outreach activities towards the public, and the organization of lectures and relations with high school teachers at the national level.
